The Royal Wives of Windsor Illustrated Talk

Discover the Stories of our Queens' Consort in this illustrated talk

What is the story behind the Royal Wives of Windsor talk?

This is the story of our Queens’ Consort, the wives of our kings, from 1070 to 1952.

Many of them have played a role in shaping the monarchy, at Windsor Castle and beyond.

Eleanor of Castile, Isabella of Valois, Catherine of Aragon, and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz are just some of those who have made their mark.

This talk takes a brief look at each of the wives and discovers some interesting stories about them.

Who will I meet?

Since 1070, when William the Conqueror started to build Windsor Castle, 37 ladies have been Queen Consort to the Kings of England and Britain.

  • The queen who found court life “stiflingly dull”
  • The witch queen
  • The six year old queen
  • The queen who introduced riding side-saddle
  • The injured queen
  • The queen who “loved hospitals”

And the queens who married for love.

We meet them all and discover their personalities.
