Abingdon Town Tours

The stories of a mid-Thames town

Let us discover Abingdon, a town with a vast past

Medieval history, an abbey, two fascinating churches, the County Hall, the market place, the River Thames. We can discover a lot in two hours.

Abingdon is a typical mid-Thames market town, but its history reveals much more.

Pevsner was very complimentary about the three sets of almshouses, “no other churchyard anywhere has anything like it”.

Get to know Abingdon and its residents over the centuries

We have options.  Our 75 minute tour starting at the Market Place could include the former County Hall, the remains of the abbey, and part of the River Thames.  Or we could visit the merchants’ area of the town including a significant church and its almshouses along a different section of the river.

Two hours will allow us to do both.

A half day gives us even more time, with a walk further along the River Thames or a visit to the fascinating museum in the County Hall.
