The Kennet Valley

The ancient route to the west

Exploring the Kennet Valley

Newbury, Hungerford and Marlborough are just three of the small towns that are dotted along the Kennet Valley.  We could also add places like Lambourn, Pewsey and Devizes in the slightly wider area.

The River Kennet rises near Avebury, with its fabulous stone circle as part of a wider ancient historical area.  It was along the Kennet Valley that those settlers arrived from Europe.

Routes still follow that valley, and it is those that allow us to get into the heart of this ancient landscape, and to explore the more recent settlements.
